Embark on an unforgettable 9-day journey through Spain’s rich Jewish heritage, exploring centuries-old synagogues, historic Jewish quarters, and iconic landmarks in Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba, Granada, Seville, and Barcelona.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival to Spain

  • Arrival in Madrid, Spain’s modern capital, preserving its historic neighborhoods and streets.
  • Leisure day to get settled and adjusted to Spanish time.
  • Optional visit to Beth Yaacov Synagogue and its Jewish history museum (pre-booking required).
  • Overnight in Madrid.

DAY 2: Madrid

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Introduction and welcoming session.
  • Walking tour of Madrid’s historic Habsburg Quarter:
    • Plaza de Oriente (outside of the Royal Palace & Royal Theater).
    • Plaza Mayor (site of Spanish Inquisition trials).
    • Puerta del Sol & San Miguel Market (great for tapas lunch).
  • Afternoon at leisure (optional visit to El Prado Museum).
  • Group dinner.
  • Overnight in Madrid.

DAY 3: Toledo

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart for Toledo, once called the “Jerusalem of the West.”
  • Walking tour of the medieval city:
    • Jewish Quarter & Samuel Halevi Abulafia Synagogue.
    • Sephardic Museum & Santa Maria La Blanca.
    • Optional visit to El Greco’s Museum.
  • Lunch on your own and free time in Toledo.
  • Return to Madrid for dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight in Madrid.

DAY 4: Cordoba

  • Breakfast at the hotel, check-out.
  • Morning high-speed AVE train to Cordoba.
  • Guided tour of Mosque-Cathedral (8th century).
  • Lunch on your own.
  • Afternoon walking tour of Cordoba:
    • Jewish Quarter (Plaza Tiberias, Yehuda Halevi Square, Statue of Maimonides).
    • Medieval Synagogue (1315).
    • Special Ladino musical performance & Kabbalat Shabbat at Casa de Sefarad.
  • Group dinner.
  • Overnight in Cordoba.

DAY 5: Cordoba (Saturday – Leisure Day)

  • Optional walking tour:
    • Alcazar of Cordoba.
    • Arab baths & Al-Andalus Life Museum.
    • Madinat Al-Zahra (ancient palace-city).
  • Leisure time in Cordoba’s historic streets.
  • Overnight and dinner in Cordoba.

DAY 6: Granada

  • Breakfast at the hotel, check-out.
  • Depart for Granada.
  • Walking tour of Albaycín (UNESCO World Heritage Site):
    • Moorish architecture and scenic views of Alhambra Palace.
  • Lunch on your own.
  • Group dinner.
  • Overnight in Granada.

DAY 7: Granada

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Guided tour of Alhambra Palace & Generalife Gardens.
  • Visit Hall of the Ambassadors (site of the 1492 Edict of Expulsion).
  • Lunch on your own.
  • Optional visit to Royal Chapel & Granada Cathedral.
  • Dinner on your own (suggested tapas at Plaza Nueva).
  • Overnight in Granada.

DAY 8: Seville

  • Morning bus to Seville, capital of Andalusia.
  • Free time at Plaza de España (architectural landmark from 1929 Expo).
  • Lunch on your own.
  • Optional visit to:
    • Alcazar Palace & Gardens.
    • Seville Cathedral (burial site of Christopher Columbus).
    • La Giralda Tower.
  • Evening Flamenco show.
  • Overnight and dinner in Seville.

DAY 9: Seville

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Guided tour of Santa Cruz neighborhood (former Jewish Quarter).
  • Farewell group lunch.
  • Optional transfers to:
    • Airport/train station for departures.
    • Flight/train to Barcelona for tour extension.

(Wednesday): Arrival in Barcelona (Optional Extension)

  • Arrival in Barcelona, capital of Catalonia and Spain’s most modern city.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Optional Barcelona Jewish Heritage Tour (available upon request).
